Hobbies

My name is Karen S. Green, M.A., and as an English instructor with 20+ years of teaching and tutoring experience, my goal has always been to teach students how to communicate effectively through the development of their grammar, writing, and critical thinking skills. Writing is my passion! – therefore, I am committed to fostering that same enthusiasm within my students as they learn to convey their ideas –both orally and in writing–with skill and confidence. A typical tutoring session will begin with proper introductions (first time) and a discussion of expectations from both parties. While we are becoming acquainted, I will ask questions and observe the student’s responses to ascertain how best to relate to them. The student will (usually) provide a teacher’s handout outlining an assignment, which will include the deadline for completion. If the student has begun the assignment, I will review the draft and the student and I will discuss suggestions for improvement. If the student has not begun the assignment, we will discuss possible topics and engage in prewriting exercises to get him or her started. Near the end, we will recap what was accomplished during the session and create a list of steps toward assignment completion prior to the next session. I will then answer any questions the student might have. Once the student indicates satisfactory clarity, I will end the session by providing positive feedback and encouragement. Other than tutoring, I enjoy reading, knitting, quilting, and gardening,
